Most people will be gathering with friends and family for cookouts, picnics or just going down to the lakefront for Summerfest.
But not Sykes. Sykes is celebrating the birth of this country by mocking them furriners.
Yup, nothing says God Bless America or celebrating the creation of the "great melting pot" like making fun of those different than you.
Did you actually WATCH the video, or you just automatically making assumptions because it's Sykes, it must be something negative?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I thought it was hilarious.
Yes, Kate, I did watch it. I found it ignorant. I am actually kind of surprised that Rick Esenberg had posted it originally. I had thought he would have been better than that.
ReplyDeleteWhut....no one is suppose to have a sense of humor?
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs a good laugh. I just didn't think that mocking another language or culture is funny, just primitive.
ReplyDeleteMocking? Well, then if that's what you see, then perhaps you have a problem? Ever heard the song "louie louie"? NO one knows what that song says, yet it's ok to make fun of it. What's the difference?
ReplyDeleteWhat's the difference? Oh, c'mon Kate, don't be so silly!
ReplyDelete"Louie, Louie" is from our own culture, and any jokes about it deal with the fact that the words are so garbled, not because they are in a foreign language.
Are you sure it's a foreign language? I mean, seriously....how can ya tell? Criminy capper...ya really gotta be able to laugh at more than conservatives y'know. Life is funny! :)
ReplyDeleteKate, from memory:
ReplyDeleteFine little girl she wait for me
Catch a ship for cross the sea
Make that trip all alone
Get that girl and bring her home
The second verse is hazier. The problem with "Louie Louie" is not that the Trogs mumbled it, but that they were doing a bad mocking take on the ska/calypso that was filtering north from Jamaica. The lyrics unflatteringly ape Jamican dialect.
However, Benny Lava is hilarious and I watch it every couple of weeks when I get angry at the world. Sorry, capper.
And here I thought they were all just blitzed when they recorded that. Heh.
ReplyDeleteKate, I love to laugh. Monty Python is often a source for me. I even like stuff like Family Guy and the sort. Heck, I even like the old Benny Hill shows, when I get a chance to watch them. So, I'm not quite a prude either.
ReplyDeleteI just didn't find this funny, but on the line of offensive. Even if Jay likes it.
Well, I can't answer that Kate, cuz I never saw that. But I would say that if the Chinese were laughing at it because they understood the jokes, that's fine. If they were laughing at it because the translation had Rob calling Laura a pregnant yak, and that is not what he said, then it's wrong.
ReplyDeleteCriminy capper, ya really gotta lighten up once in a while. :)
ReplyDeleteBenny Hill??
ReplyDeleteOh. God.
Talk about primitive.
Oh dear, Kate, I have a fabulous sense of humor. You just got to get to know me better, I reckon.
