Blinded By Science

We know how the right wingers love to hate anything to do with global climate change. That is their favorite bogeyman next to Democrats and taxes.

They will argue against climate change until their blue in the face.

Now we can see why. Fischer has a post, which links to a report about the Farmer's Almanac (not to be confused with the Old Farmer's Almanac) which predicts that this winter will have colder than normal temperatures and higher than normal snowfalls.

But how do they come by such an alarmist forecast? This article explains:
The almanac — not to be confused with the New Hampshire-based Old Farmer's Almanac which is 26 years older — attributes its forecasts to reclusive prognosticator Caleb Weatherbee, who uses a secret formula based on sunspots, the position of the planets and the tidal action of the moon.

Weatherbee's outlook is borne out by e-mails the almanac has received in recent days from readers who have spotted signs of nature they say point to a rough winter, Geiger said. These folklore signs range from an abundance of acorns already on the ground to the frequency of fog in August.

So, we can just get rid of all those educated climatologists and meteorologists with all their satellites, pattern formulas, and fancy equipment. All they need is a hermit that checks sunspots and acorns to have a full year's weather prediction.

This might also go a long way to understanding where they come from in regards to medicine, fiscal policies and foreign diplomacy.

  1. You mean climatologists like Dr. William Gray? Dr. Patrick Michaels? "Claude Allegre, a leading French scientist, who was among the first scientists to try to warn people of the dangers of global warming 20 years ago, (but) now believes that increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena"? How about Dr. Sallie Baliunas, an astrophysicist who says that the 20th Century temperature pattern shows a strong correlation to energy output of the sun? (The sun is related to the Earth's temperature? Radical!) Or S. Fred Singer, who co-authored a book describing a 1500 year climate cycle on Earth? (Remember the Ice Age? There were no SUVs around then. Must have been caused by mammoth farts.)

Are these the climatologists you're talking about? Or do you mean Al Gore?

For dozens more names, see the List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming. It's Wikipedia, but it is heavily sourced.

  2. You're a smart person. If you were able to Google that much information, I bet you'd be able to Google the counterclaims as well. But seeing that we are in another drought (fourth year in a row) in Central Wisconsin, which used to be very fertile ground, because of the rainfall, I'd say that the climate, it is achangin'.

  3. For the record, I never use Google. I think Google sucks. But that's a separate post.

My larger point was that the Earth's climate has always changed, and that there is not scientific consensus, as you imply, that this is caused by humans. Far from it.
