Sigmund McIlheran

Preview McIlheran notes that Marquette's nutty professor and occasional crusader, John McAdams, was able to twist a story of a young woman getting fired from an university-operated counseling center for refusing to treat a patient into a fantasy tale of religious persecution.

MJS's own Sigmund has a Freudian slip when he writes:
As it happens, she thinks engaging in homosexual thrills is destructive to individuals – that is, it is greatly immoral and, presumably, has eternal consequences.
If nothing else, this is a great argument for nationalized health care. After all, who wants a person like McIlheran, McAdams or the young woman deciding if you are worthy of being treated? I'd go with the equality every time, thank you very much.

As for the rest of their argument, a certain blogger who is devilishly witty and devastatingly handsome, and knows more about providing mental health services than all three of these people combined has more to say on the subject here.

Lessons From The Perferssor

While it is not OK to pick on Catholics or Christians for the choices they make, like Bill Maher does, it is perfectly fine to pick on women, because they're not men.

This has been today's lesson from Perfesser McAdams.

Does McIlheran Have Memory Loss Or Is It Just Hypocrisy?

Poor old PaddyMac. He must have received a nasty bump on the head during his absence, and now is suffering memory loss. Either that, or it's just the same old hypocrisy from the right wing squawkers.

PaddyMac points out to a post from The Crusader, which is critical of some of the abhorrent comments left by the left regarding the passing of Tony Snow. And they are correct, to a degree. While I had no use for Snow while he was alive, I did not feel the need to disrespect him in his passing. And I also find some of the vulgar comments that they have highlighted as being rather distasteful and completely inappropriate.

However, when they seem to feel that the left has a corner on the market of distasteful hatred, Paddy seems to come up a wee bit short in the honesty department.

Perhaps he forgot about his good buddy Sykes had his COEXIST scandal, in which Charlie thought it was "brilliance" and "genius" to insult two out of three of the world's major religions. This bigoted behavior is something that Paddy himself had participated in as well.

Or perhaps Paddy has forgotten that he actually came to the defense of Peter, who had the peaceful, appropriate language of making threats towards another blogger, in the most base language available and who had compared Islam to Nazism. In fact, Paddy called Peter's bigoted, insulting and vulgar writings as "refreshingly caustic and pungent" and did not seem the least put off by these types of writings.

Memory loss or hypocrisy. Either way, I still can't figure out why this guy calls himself a professional.

As A Wise Man Said...

If McAdams wants to give some credence to his ongoing crusades of being offended, perhaps he should lose what some may consider to be the racist name of his blog.

Hypocrisy And Selective Outrage--They're Not Just For Talk Radio Anymore

This past weekend Illy-T noted that John McAdams was getting his selective outrage on. Why? Because WKLH, the Shepherd Express and American TV had the audacity to sponsor a show with Bill Maher. Apparently McAdams felt this was terrible, because Maher cracked a few jokes at the expense of Catholics, or something.

Sykes picked up on that, and our own kr picked up on Sykes.

Today, there was a firestorm put up. On one side, their was McAdams, Sykes, Belling and several others, putting up such a stink that American responded, rather politely. Unsatisfied, and smelling blood, they kept up their assault until American acquiesced and pulled their sponsorship.

Fair enough. Freedom of speech is protected under the Constitution.

But that wasn't the end of it, really. McAdams, apparently feeling more ornery than usual, decided to take umbrage with this post of mine. He feels that it is OK for him to show his disapproval of an event, but that the left is not allowed the same privilege.

To make his arguments even more ridiculous, McAdams, who claims to be offended by Maher's anti-Catholic jokes, proudly links to those who readily insult Islam, women, homosexuals, Mexicans and people who want to give peace a chance.

Others have caught this grand act of hypocrisy:

Illy-T has been tracking it here, here, here and here.

Jay Bullock has also noted the selective outrage and the hypocrisy.

Other Side cuts to the chase, and notes their shamelessness.

But we are not helpless, my friends. If you feel that enough is enough, there are a couple of things we can do.

One is to show your support for Bill Maher. You can do so by simply going to this site and leaving a message expressing your outrage over the way the right wants to trample his rights.

You can also call American TV at (608) 271 1000 or email them through this site, and let them know that you're disappointed that they gave into a handful of vainglorious hypocrites.

SIDENOTE: Ironically, I received an email from my self-described neocon father. The email contained an old joke involving Forrest Gump entering heaven. He received this joke from someone in his church. At the end of the email was this:
Give me a sense of humor, Lord.
Give me the ability to understand a clean joke,
To get some humor out of life,
And to pass it on to other folks.

This is something that McAdams, Sykes, and the rest of the perpetually offended right wingers should add to their daily prayers.
