You, Sir, Are No Grumps!

PaddyMac gets really precocious this morning in his piece in the morning's paper:
Look, if it's not the holidays without a Grinch, if Dickens had no carol without Scrooge, then it's no good putting off one's duty to say, "Bah! Humbug!" Besides, what's a conservative columnist for, since we're presumed to be grumps?
All I have to say to Paddy is this: I know grumps. I have blogged with grumps. And you, sir, are no grumps! Grumps is entertaining, insightful and honest. Those are three attributes you can only pretend to have.

Also let it be noted that it appears that in his mewlings, PaddyMac also goes on to be whining about the failure of not having mass transit, capitalism, and environmental issues. Although he would never admit it openly, it is nice to see him admit that the positions he is shilling for are flops.

It's True For Right Wing Squawkers, Too

Our own grumps, reflecting on the dilemma faced by teabagging right wingers:
You've got to believe that it's evil enough to give taxpayer dollars to private businesses that you're willing to march on the Capitol and at the same time believe that the state is evil for not getting in a bidding war and cutting huge incentive checks to private businesses.

Right Winger Pays Me High Compliment

Kevin Binversie, right wing blogger, has actually given me two compliments.

One is that he spells my name correctly. Secondly, he gives me credit for the ever-pithy and erudite grumps, who was the actual author of this post.

But as a friend of Whallah! and Cog Dis alerted me, Kevin did miss one: An American Carol out of his examples: "To date, An American Carol has grossed $7 million after having a production budget of $20 million"

Oh, and Mr. Binversie, the "Kev" that grumps referred to is Kevin Fischer, not you. Sorry to disillusion you like that.

Homeland Security: Fashion Police Division

Michelle Malkin, the national version of Jessica McBride, shows us how far some on the right will go in their selective outrage. She apparently led a successful campaign to get Dunkin Donuts to pull a commercial starring Rachel Ray, international terrorist.

You can read more about this in posts by our own grumps and our own kr.

And someone named Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (I love that name) has started a movement to let Dunkin Donuts that their a bunch of patsies for falling for this false outrage.
Unfortunately for Malkin, she is also apparently a terrorist, judging by her garb.
I just wonder when Homeland Security will go after those Canuckofacists, who have been shown wearing terrorist-like toques.

Nothing To See Here, Folks, Just Move Along

Charlie says no one had their votes supressed in Indiana, despite their Voter ID law.

Grumps shows us a newlywed woman, some college kids and a dozen nuns who must be nobodies.

Must've Been A Slow Weekend

As I surveyed the blogosphere to make sure all was well in the kingdom, I noticed a recurring theme.

To make a long story short, an officer with the Franklin Police Department, who is an Afghanistan War veteran, came back home and resumed his career as one of Franklin's finest. Said officer put up a magnet of an American flag on the outside of his locker. The FPD, like most law enforcement agencies have a broad rule stating that this is not allowed. The police chief apparently spoke to the officer, reminding him of the rule. The officer acknowledged understanding and put the magnet inside his locker, which is perfectly allowed. Story over, right?

Wrong. Wagner has to put his two cents in. He way overcharges for his opinions, by the way. Fischer also is so upset about the issue, he posts on it not just once, but twice. Again, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Anyone who has served in the military, or who has worked in the law enforcement area, which in itself is operated in a paramilitary fashion, is well aware of the need for discipline and structure. A rule may seem silly to a lay person, but there is usually some reason for it to be in effect. That reason is usually to maintain order and discipline among the officers and to treat everyone equally.

Of course, maintaining a sense of order and treating everyone equally has never been a long suit for most conservatives, but that is besides the point.

I pondered on what would cause these two to get themselves in such a lather. I highly doubt it was the subject itself, since even the officer in the story was OK with the rule and had no problems with being a team player.

I thought maybe Fischer was all up in arms because John Michlig, of Sprawled Out, pointed out that it wasn't much of a news story, and how silly TMJ and FranklinNow made themselves look by trying to make it into one. Fischer has some issues with John. For one, John has held Fischer accountable for being honest in his self reporting. The other is that John is ten times the reporter and a hundred times the writer that Fischer would ever be. (Not to take away from John, but a fetid mouse turd could outwrite Fischer.)

But that doesn't explain Wagner's faux outrage, only Fischer's.

Then Sir Grumps, Knight of the Dolorous Countenance (his choice, not mine), points out that perhaps they might have been celebrating the 172nd anniversary of unnecessary whining.

Exceeding The RDA In Irony

Something has made grumps grumpy:

So. Here we are on the day after the election and The Gazette has found that there are partisans participating in non-partisan elections. (They weren't the only ones. Some idiot over at Fred's place thought it might be unconstitutional for teachers to vote on school referenda and wanted The New Supremes [Now with 17% more dunderheads] to look into it)

Why would I spit good soup over this, though?

It's because the editorial was over the masthead of The Gazette and the name of Publisher, Sidney Bliss. The very same Sidney Bliss who sits on the board of WMC and who, presumably, supports the actions of that body.

I'm sorry, Sid. (May I call you Sid?) You have no standing to decry the partisan actions of anyone until you take care of that line on your CV. I know that belonging to WMC is a good way to troll for advertisers and build those relationships that lead to good billing weeks. Fine.

But where do you get off saying (or paying someone to say) that anyone is unfairly using non-partisan politics to further an agenda when you sit on the board of an organization which has raised meddling to an art form.

Deal with that beam in your own eye, Sid. Then we can have a chat about the mote in Mike Sheridan's.
