We Should Be Carpetbombing Them Instead

Patrick McIlheran found an unusual survey done by Rasmussen, but was even more perplexed by the results (emphasis mine):

Rasmussen asks Americans which other countries we ought to be ready to defend by arms. A majority says there are five.

Canada I get, and Britain. “Israel has U.S. support even if it makes the first move,” the pollsters report, with 51% saying we ought to help out if the Israelis do the world a favor regarding Iran’s nukes. World War II is so over, at least as far as a willingness to defend Germany.

And -- this surprised me a bit -- a majority say we ought to defend Mexico if it’s attacked.
What I want to know is why he found it surprising more people would prefer to be in protective of a neighbor, a business partner and just fellow human, even if they have different color.

The Tolerant Right

Our very own Xoff sent a letter to the editor at the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal. Surprisingly, they published it:
Withdraw from Iraq

What is it that George Bush and John McCain fear about setting a timeline and getting U.S. troops out of Iraq - that we will have blood on our hands?

We already do. Four thousand Americans dead, 30,000 more wounded. Countless thousands of lives permanently shattered. Perhaps a million Iraqis dead; we don't even try to count. Four million others forced to flee their homes.

There will be no "victory" in Iraq. Withdrawing our troops will be a victory for sanity and rational behavior and a defeat for aggression justified by lies.

Yes, we need a timeline for getting out of Iraq - and the shorter the better.

Bill Christofferson
Milwaukee

Unfortunately, Bill had a less than warm reception from some of those on the right. He tells us the story here.

But remember, it's the left that is full of hate, or so we're told.

Overdose Of Irony

Owen Robinson had put up a post worthy of recommendation. In his post, he laments the decline of civility in the blogosphere:
I don’t see this happening in the Wisconsin blogosphere anymore. It has evolved, or devolved, into the crass identity politics which everyone laments. It’s rarely about debating the issues. It’s about tearing each other down. It’s sad and pathetic. And, with all due respect, it ticks me off.

I read with great interest the debate in the Wisconsin blogosphere regarding the latest Wisconsin Supreme Court election. There were lengthy posts on the race. Some of them were of depth and substance. But even of those, far too many were also laced with insults and filth. It seemed to matter less about what was said than who said it. This has become commonplace.

This may seem ironic, coming from this site, but I whole-heartedly agree with Owen. Unfortunately, sometimes things do get too personal. For the most part, I do try to stay on issues, rather than personalities. But sometimes the hypocrisy is too much to ignore.

Anyway, Sykes links to this posting, and offers his support. Apparently, his support is only in the form of words, as that he has at least three sites on his blogrolls in which the authors routinely cross that line, both in their posts and in their comments elsewhere.

Of course, Sykes' agreement to Owen's sentiments is no less ironic than Whallah's. After all, he gave us the COEXIST issue, made it worse, and didn't start this year out very well either.

Your daily overdose of irony comes from this:

Who Can It Be Now?

This reminds me of someone....Now what was her name? It was someone that had a lot of growing up to do...

It Is To Laugh

For those of you who haven't been following the Fischer saga to closely, it should be known that there is another blogger who had been involved in the fringes of the story. This person's name is Fred Keller, and to be honest, I don't know much about him except that he is quite conservative. I also know that he used to be part of the FranklinNOW blog community until he either left on his own, or was forced out, under questionable circumstances. Either way, he has been a big ally to Fischer.

All of that is really irrevelant, but I'd just thought I'd give you the background so that the reader may have a fuller appreciation of one of his posts, which a faithful a reader pointed out to me.

His post is basically a picture of Johnny Cash flipping the finger at the camera, and he titles the post Happy Valentines Day “Favorite Left-Wing Nuts!”. The body of the post, in its entirety, is as follows, with my emphasis added:

Since I don’t know all of you that well, this is the only thing I could think of.

I hope you like Johnny Cash!

I wonder how Thoughtful Conservative, Cindy Kilkenney, Wiggy, and Fred feel about being labeled left wingers? I think this could be categorized under "How not to win friends and influence people."

Queen Of The Grudges

In the previous post, it was noted that McBride sometimes lets her hatred get the better of her. It has also been noted that McBride loves to hold onto a grudge.

Now, she has mastered the two in a single post. The object of her hatred is her all-time favorite target, Eugene Kane, who points out the racial stereotyping that often happens in certain news stories, such as the recent mall shooting in Omaha.

McBride, who, again, either didn't read it, or was so consumed with her hatred, wrote this:

Eugene Kane column today in Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Mall shooter fit angry white male profile

Imagine a headline that read:

Shooter fit angry black male profile

Can't imagine it? Neither can I. It would be considered racist. It would NEVER make it in the newspaper. Heck, if I'd said that on my radio show, Jim Rowen and Illusory Tenant would have called for my firing. And WTMJ would probably have complied.

Then again, if you read Kane's entire column, he almost seems to be arguing for individual responsibility and racial profiling. I think. What exactly IS his point in this column?

So, not only is she bashing Kane, and (willfully?) misreading his column, but she goes after James Rowen (who she apparently still blames for her being canned from the radio station), she brings up IT (who had nothing to to do with either her firing or Kane's article), and confuses the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (a newspaper) for WTMJ (a radio station).

And then she wonders why people question her professionalism, or why she is allowed to teach journalism. Go figure.

SIDENOTE TO DAD29: Anger is a common symptom of clinical depresssion. (For those who are confused, read the comments section in McBride's post, in which Dad29 tries to deny the commonality between depression and anger.)
