Guess who was dumb enough to do just that.

French is probably too beautiful and romantic a language to accept Charlie's words.
I'm still waiting for them to translate his book to English.

Marching Orders
Funny, I always thought that was the job of the talk radio host.
Ouch!
MADISON – Democratic Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Jason Stephany today released the following statement in response to reports that RNC Chair Michael Steele is scheduled to appear at the Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention in May.Oh, he was available alright, there just wasn't enough Viagra and cabana boys here for his liking.
“I guess the head of the Republican Party wasn’t available.”

Sykes Takes His Racebaiting To School
Read the whole thing here.Charlie -- not to mention his emailer -- also could have pointed out that MATC has policies in place laying out gender/racial makeup of the board. Charlie may denounce this as "official racism." The Brawler would suggest it's a wholly defensible effort by the board (and the positions are unpaid) to look like the community in which it lives. Certainly corporations are trying to do just that.
But why allow nuance when incitement is so much more fun.
Charlie Sykes: I Have The Right To Make You Pay More
The gist of his argument was that as long as he paid for the TV, he could do whatever he wanted and run it as much as he liked, and no one should have the right to tell him otherwise. He tried to paint it that the people with the large energy-sucking TVs were the oppressed ones.
However, the article linked to above tells us only 13% of the TVs wouldn't meet the standards if they were in effect now.
But more importantly, it seems that Sykes, and those that would agree with him, think that they have the right to screw over the public for their own gratitude. When Charlie runs his power sucking TV, it creates a higher demand for the electricity. The higher the demand, the higher the cost it is for the electricity, not just for Sykes, but for everyone. So if the old lady down the street is on a fixed income, she will be forced to decide between buying food, paying for her increasingly expensive medicine, or having the lights on, well, according to Sykes, that's just too bad for her.
If Sykes was really interested in being fair, he would be willing to pay a larger tax to subsidize his higher consumption.
And, of course, none of this even mentions what it would be doing to the environment.

McIlheran, MJS Are Not To Be Believed
I am a lucky guy. I think. Somehow, after all these years of duels and ripostes, in the last couple of weeks Patrick McIlheran has added me to his mailing list. That means every few days or so I get an email from him with the full text of a column of his slated to run in the next day or two.Gretchen Schuldt, of Milwaukee Rising, understated the obvious by pointing out that this was a violation of journalistic ethics. She also took it another step by getting in touch with George Stanley of MJS, who said that it Paddy's actions were inappropriate and shouldn't have happened (emphasis mine):
Thursday night I got his preview of Friday's column*. (Confidential to PM in Bay View: Next time, use the BCC field. Your sole liberal correspondent might feel a bit weird about being your sole liberal correspondent, and was probably happier when he believed there was a more even distribution.) "Here’s an early look at my column in Friday's Journal Sentinel. You’re seeing it because I send a heads-up to a select group of talkers and bloggers whose work I admire. You’re among them." See? Lucky!
Patrick McIlheran’s pre-publication sharing of a column with a generally right wing bunch of bloggers was a mistake that shouldn’t have happened and shouldn’t happen again, according to Journal Sentinel managing editor George Stanley (previous posts here and here).Gretchen later wrote in the same post that if PaddyMac ever did do it again, he should have "his butt kicked up between his ears." I expressed my doubt about believing Mr. Stanley with that claim in this post.
Well, I hope Gretchen has some good ass-kicking boots, because he went ahead and did it again.
Jay has another post up regarding McIlheran's poorly thought out propaganda piece that is due to hit the papers tomorrow (again, emphasis mine):
As sometimes happens, my inbox was graced this afternoon with an email from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Patrick McIlheran, who retains a place of high regard in my rogues gallery even if I don't bother writing about him much anymore. (Tom Foley has taken up a lot of the slack.) The email is pimping his column in tomorrow's paper, which is about the study of the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program that was released earlier this week, which I wrote about here. Here's a line from the email:The rest of Jay's post points out how McIlheran is basically lying through his keyboard about school choice, and fails to accredit Jay by name (or by link on the website version of it, even though he wouldn't hesitate to do that for Rick Esenberg or Dad29).Anyhow, in Sunday morning's paper, I'll look at the idiot notion that the school choice study results mean the program ought to be shut down.Which threw me for a loop: I've followed the release of the study, the reaction, and the news about it, and I haven't read or heard a single person use the study as the basis for a call to shut down the program.
This pretty much answers the question of whether McIlheran or the MJS have any integrity left.
But it does leave two other questions:
- Will the MJS give us subscribers a chance for sneak previews, or if not, then a discount seeing that we are not receiving the same service?
- Will Gretchen gives advanced warning so that we can bring a video camera and a lunch for when Paddy's buttocks ends up between his ears?

That's Entertainment
Charlie – what is the end game? I am sick and damned tired of waking up every day to find out who else that hasn’t (sic) played by the rules is going to be rewarded by our government. I am sick and tired of asking why I struggle to pay my bills and put a little away for a rainy day. I am sick and God damned tired of the grasshoppers being given the keys to my trough and the trough of all of my fellow ants. Why don’t they just take everything? Identify society’s producers and just take EVERYTHING that they have and give it to society’s non-producers and at least spare my weary ears from having to hear who is getting the fruit of my labor next?! Huh?! I’m at that point. I’m sick of it, just take it all and shut the F up!Two amusing things about this. Maddie could have been playing Charlie and was referring to Wall Street.
Then at the comments a hapless soul by the name of Zenia starts things off by talking in a slightly liberal Pollyannaish language, not realizing she was going to open the gates of hell. She blithely touches off the master race fury of the Sykes peanut gallery, running nearly four dozen screaming comments. That'll learn her to troll.
Thank you Charlie for your fine contributions to civilized dialogue in Milwaukee. Where else could well reasoned thoughts of someone like Maddie get a chance to stink up the joint?

Rose Fernandez's Scandal?
Instead, there is not even a peep that I could tell of.
Even Sykes' compatriot, Aaron Rodriguez, who was all over that Tony Evers' story (and then backtracking on his use of an apostrophe) hasn't covered the questionable stunt by Pridemore.
What Rodriguez does do is try to discredit Cory Liebmann's stellar work regarding Fernandez. Unfortunately for Rodriguez, he fails miserably.
I shan't bore the reader with his long, struggling attempt and failure of refuting Cory's work, but draw the reader to one paragraph in particular:
If Fernandez had access to to these "substantial resources", wouldn't she have raised more than $20,000 in the primaries? The fact remains that Fernandez, out of necessity, had to loan her own campaign $4,000 dollars in order to reach the minimum qualifying amount for public funding. Where were the deep pockets of K12 in the primaries? And why did Rose need to loan her own campaign money if she was in a covert partnership with K12? Evers, on the other hand, has substantial resources with the WEAC endorsement. He raised more than $95,000 in the primaries, $26,000 from local unions, and this doesn't include $200,000 in WEAC's paid television advertisements in Dane County.Does Mr. Fernandez really believe that we have forgotten about how much money the special interests have poured into the last two Wisconsin Supreme Court races? Or how these special interests have bought seats for two justices, Ziegler and Gableman, who have the distinct dishonor of bringing shame and a cloud of corruption to the highest court in the state?
I'm sorry, Mr. Fernandez, but I don't want our schools or our children going to the highest bidder. Nor do I want to have my taxes go up while she shows us that she doesn't know what the heck she is doing and making things only worse.
For further enlightenment on just how bad of a candidate Ms. Fernandez is, I would kindly refer to the fine ramblings and rants of my friend, Jay Bullock.
Conservative Women Show Real Class: Part II
Tammy Bruce, guest hosting for Ingraham, isn't any better:
Cue the "But the libs did it to Bush" defense in 3...2...1....Discussing the first lady's visit to a Washington D.C. classroom last week, Bruce incredulously recalled Obama's story about wanting to get A's in school and called out her use of a "weird, fake accent."
"That's what he's married to," Bruce said. "...You know what we've got? We've got trash in the White House. Trash is a thing that is colorblind, it can cross all eco-socionomic...categories. You can work on Wall Street, or you can work at the Wal-Mart. Trash, are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy..."

Whallah! On Wonkette
Just now your editors were having a little talky about our secret boyfriend, the New York Times’ token cross-dressing felcher Bill Kristol. “His column is boring and moderate this week,” said our Jim Newell. “He probably has some solid shit-eating lines, though.” And WALLAH, just like that, we found a nugget of silliness embedded at the very end of this kind of dull review of different strains of conservatism. It's nice to be recognized, even if they can't spell our name correctly.

James Harris, Science Guy
However, there is something Harris seemed to miss:
Americans have cut back on buying vehicles of all types as the economy continues its slide. Not only that, but Harris made his old science teachers cringe when he writes this nonsense (emphasis mine):
Hybrid vehicles were the hot babes at the pool last summer, but sales have collapsed as Americans refuse to shell out big cash for fuel-efficient cars now that gas is cheap again. Follow the money lefties! It's all about the Big Mac. Americans like meat and, DavidB, oil is a renewable resource. For what it's worth, keep this in mind when Harris tells us other "scientific facts" that he knows, like that there is no such thing as global climate change.
CloFu? WTFu?
First you have the calculated goofiness of PETA who claim to be making tofu with the "Essence of George Clooney." Is it any wonder that almost no one gives them any credence?
Then you have Clooney's reaction. "Hey! I'm a mammal, too." Sheep poetry.
Third you have the cultural milepost of a news host on a supposedly-major network asking an invited guest if they are, "Nuttier than elephant stool."
And finally you get the Fox Special #4, thickly slathered sexist nonsense with a side of stereotypical homosexual banter as filtered through Murdochian sludge.
FNN and PETA. A match made in media Hell.

Conservative Women Show Real Class
Another nationally known squawker, Laura Ingraham, went on the attack. But not for her politics, or for what she said or did, but for her looks:
After McCain, 24, criticized Anne Coulter and other far right conservatives in an online column, political commentator Laura Ingraham heckled her on her radio show last week. She said the daughter of former presidential nominee John McCain was "just another Valley Girl gone awry." She then mocked McCain in a faux Valley Girl voice, saying that she didn't get a "role in the Real World" because "they don't like plus-sized models."I will be honest and admit that I have never listed to Ingraham, except for the clips I've heard when she ripped on Brett Favre the first time he retired. But from what I've read, she appears to be strictly one of those shock type of squawkers, like Michael Savage or Rush Limbaugh or An Coulter, who say obnoxious things like that just to draw attention to themselves.
It tells me two things about these types of people. One is that they don't have an intellectual view on anything, and are only trying to get the other person upset to throw them off balance.
The other thing is that they must be feeling very insecure and/or have a very low self-esteem that the only way that they can build themselves up is to tear other people down.
James Wigderson, a conservative local blogger, also has some views on the subject. He does start out rather well, but then kind of loses it with a desperate "they do it too" type of defense for it. But it is still worth a look see.

Squawk Radio Doing Itself In
Now it is all coming back to bite them in the microphone:
But for all the anti-tax swagger and the occasional stunts by personalities like KFI's John and Ken, the reality is that conservative talk radio in California is on the wane. The economy's downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters. And as James Rowen, who found this story, points out, these things tend to take time to work from the West to the East, it will be a only a matter of time until it reaches here. Remember, Clear Channel, which runs WISN-AM, recently announced a large amount of layoffs. And Journal Broadcasting Group, parent company of WTMJ-AM, tried to tell the unions that they would be laying off people, although that may have been a lie in trying to force an unfair contract on the unions.
For that and other reasons, stations have dropped the shows of at least half a dozen radio personalities and scaled back others, in some cases replacing them with cheaper nationally syndicated programs.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
For example, when Fischer decides to spout off on the CRG's attempt at attention seeking by calling for a recall of Governor Doyle, he adds this little line at the end (emphasis mine):
Conservatives can politely, respectfully disagree on a recall, but they are in unison that Doyle has to go, whether it is now or next year. I prefer sooner than later.
This one sentence pegs the hypocrisy meter, since ol' Fischer knows nothing about the words respect.
Just in the comment thread in this section, he belittles fellow conservative, and fellow Franklinite, Fred Keller.
Then in the comment section of another post, he insults both his former friend Keller, but also on his nemesis, Greg Kowalkski:
Fred:
I'm merely providing a public service, posting an informative article about how unsafe some dog leashes are.I see you graduated from the Greg Kowalski School of Spelling.
It is even more ironic when one considers the fact that Fischer is a master of the copy and paste himself.
Unfortunately for Fischer, Keller is not one to take it laying down, but takes it to Fischer with a post of his own, calling for Fischer's job:
As a constituent of State Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), I call upon her to fire her Legislative Aide Kevin Fischer.Like all who live in this great country of ours, Kevin Fischer has the right to free speech and – like me – should not be bashful about exercising this Constitutional right. However, when exercising this right, one should be prepared to take responsibility for one’s speech.
[...]
Kevin Fischer has a very long and well-documented history of showing utter contempt and outright disrespect for Sen. Lazich’s constituents in Franklin. For her part, Sen. Lazich seems incapable of, or simply unwilling to, appropriately deal with her underling’s immature behavior and caustic personal attacks on constituents in Franklin.
Franklin voters need to hold Sen. Lazich accountable for Fischer’s vitriol – on and off “the clock.”
Frequent readers of FranklinNOW are all too familiar with the venom Fischer regularly spews forth on his firebrand blog “This Just In…” It’s time for Sen. Lazich to send Kevin Fischer packing. If she chooses not to, then come election time, voters should send Mary Lazich packing.
As far as I am concerned, let Lazich keep Fischer. He does have the right to say what he wants, how he wants, when it is on his own time. But given the fact that Lazich has admitted that Fischer writers her blogspots for her, as well as his own, let her receive whatever consequences she gets for keeping him on.
It's not the first time I've heard of conservatives in Franklin also calling for her ouster. The longer she keeps him on board, and keeps him so closely tied to her, the more likely her ouster will be.

WI v.2.1
The ever creative and talented Emily Mills was kind enough to help Charlie out with a corrected cover:
Something tells me that Charlie won't be thanking her like he should be.
PSA: Beware Of The Ann Coulter Syndrome
Charlie, like Rush Limbaugh, is clearly suffering from Ann Coulter disease. Faced with the prospects of President Obama fixing the economy, the likelihood that public investment in infrastructure will stimulate private investment, and then continuing progressive majorities, Sykes, like Limbaugh, is now lashing out at anyone and everyone who was ever succeeded in life.If you see a right winger foaming at the mouth, do not presume it is just their normal demeanor, and do not approach them. Please make sure you keep your distance, and see your doctor or read Whallah! for the proper immunization.

Charlie, do you find happiness and peace by attacking those who have it?

Another Sexist At WISN
Facts never get in the way of spreading straight up lies on the public AM airwaves though! Plus, it gives them a chance to express faux outrage about wasted tax dollars while getting to toss in childish comments like “Queen Nancy!” while calling her “witch” and “honey“. Clever, but your station already has one sexist talk show host Jay.
Who's In Charge Of The GOP?
When they announced that Michael Steele was to be the new head of the GOP, all the local righties were instantly enamored with him, and praising what a good choice he was. Just like they did with Sarah Palin. Now it looks like their support is going to last him about as long as it lasted her.
From All Headline News:
Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The GOP plans to hold a no confidence vote on Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele after New York's 20th congressional district holds its election for the House at the end of the month, according to Political Wire.Steele is facing increasing criticisms from his own party over his recent statements, less than six weeks into his chairmanship. The first black RNC head, he won the party's top post as controversies plagued his rivals.
I will admit that I am taking some guilty pleasure at watching the right do this to each other. It also makes me sleep better knowing that someone like Rush, with his low approval ratings, it the GOP's unofficial leader.
Tip of the crown to Caffeinated Politics.

He adds that the daily paper is "hot on the trail" and that we "should check it out on Tuesday."
That same daily paper, at 9:54 pm, almost a whole half hour earlier, actually gives the story, with interviews, quotes from the participants, and all that good stuff.
Stay tuned tomorrow, when Kevin Fischer tells us that Obama won the presidential election in another breaking news story.

National Rush (into) Limbo Appreciation Day
First up is The Chief highlighting Limbo's problem with the Constitution.
Caffeinated Politics shows the way to the "Sorry Rush" page, where you too can apologize to Rush. (I hear that Michael Steele has that at the top of his bookmarked pages.)
Grumps describes the website thusly:
The handy drop down boxes make it easy for you to personalize your own message to the drug-addicted serial monogamist sex tourist who now speaks for all Conservatives. Rumor has it that JtP will be insulting Rushbo at the AFP Navel-Gazing Expo and Ice Fishing Jamboree just so he can apologize next week.Tim Rock thinks that Rush looks like a mafia hitman.
Jim Burkee takes a more serious look at Rush:
Kay has a video telling people to "Just Say No."Ideological movements need people like Rush Limbaugh to convey beliefs in engaging and simplified ways - something he is particularly skilled at doing. But if conservatism is to retain any semblance of intellectual depth, the seriousness and reasoned consistency necessary to transform it again into a broad, majoritarian movement, conservatives must vocally reject any notion that Rush Limbaugh is a prominent or serious leader.
Looking to a man who refers to opposition leaders as "Dingy Harry" and "Barack the Magic Negro" conveys all the sobriety and profundity of "Joe the Plumber." It's entertaining, but hardly the stuff of movements.
The problem is, as a friend and fan of Rush Limbaugh told me this morning, "There's nothing else out there" for conservatives.
And for a look into true madness, check out this post from Carter Clews, who actually compares Rush to Jesus.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
The self-fulfilling prophecy is a statement that alters actions and therefore comes true. For example, a person stating “I’m probably going to have a lousy day,” might alter his actions so that such a prediction is fulfilled by his actions. This may be an unconscious gesture. A person who might espouse a self-fulfilling prophecy in a positive way “I’m going to have a great day,” might act in ways that will actually make this prediction true.
An example would be:

Randy, give Mark a call
GOUSHA: Very briefly are you surprised its become a campaign issue, for some on the left and some on the right?Apparently the judge hasn't been talking to Mark Belling , who's gone after him regularly. Belling's hardly one of the usual liberal suspects or an Abrahamson supporter.
KOSCHNICK: I think most of the criticism on that particular topic is coming from Abrahamson supporters. I think they are trying to make a big deal out of that. I have not heard that criticism from many conservatives, frankly.
GOUSHA: Not that she has personally made it an issue?
KOSCHNICK: I don’t think she has done it personally at all, but people who tend to support her, through various forums and articles that I have read tend to raise that much more frequently than the conservatives who are supporting me. It hasn’t been a problem with the conservatives that I have been talking to.
Unfortunately, Gousha didn't challenge him.
