Another Right Wing Lie Put To Rest

Charlie Sykes, Patrick McIlheran, and the entire Posse Comatose, have just been, once again, proven to be hyperventilating over nothing when it comes to the Fairness Doctrine. Despite their repeated lies to scare the public, it the Fairness Doctrine just ain't coming back:
The Senate voted Thursday in favor of an amendment to the District of Columbia voting-rights bill that would prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from reinstating the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which critics say would decimate conservative talk radio.

The Senate passed the measure 87-11.
At first it seemed odd that the right wing wasn't all over this celebrating, but then I realized why they aren't saying anything. It would prove them to be lying, again. And secondly, they have just lost another weapon in their fear and smear campaign.

Who else but a right winger could get what they want and not be happy about it?

Tip of the crown to the Chief.

  1. Umm, no. How about the amendment that Durbin brought forth and passed:The amendment by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) would achieve the same goals of the Fairness Doctrine through backdoor FCC regulations. His legislation forces the FCC to “take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership,” an attempt to dismantle successful syndicated radio programs. The Durbin amendment would hurt small, local radio stations who depend on popular syndicated programming for listeners and revenue.
    From Congressman Demint's office.
    Nice spin, though.

  2. A link please. I doubt it was after this bill passed overwhelmingly.

Plus, Obama has repeatedly stated that he is against the F.D.

Just can't let go of that fear, eh?

  3. Because he doesn't know how to create a link. I'd leave instructions, but everytime I try to, I create a link and the instructions disappear. :)

Seriously Dan, if you want to be able to link send an email to my address and I'll send you instructions. I may think you are a dink, but I won't go postal on you with an email address for goodness sake.

Besides, it would be interesting to see where you get your information.

  5. I knew it was Malkin.

Unfortunately, everytime I try to provide an example of how creating a link works, I create a link and the example disappears. Aargh.

Still, using Malkin as a source is fairly ludicrous.

  6. OS, Malkin used the quote from Demint as I did, unless she fabricated the quote, I don't see your point. A quote is a quote,no matter who sourced it.

  7. Dan,

She has been known to make things up, and failing that, let us just say she likes to embellish greatly.

And no, I don't know how to embed.

  9. I am willing to show you how to embed, Dan. It just so happens that when I try to do it in this message format, the embed works and the instructions disppear. It's actually kind of funny.

Regarding the Fairness Doctrine, I think paranoia is getting the best of conservatives. Good to see, or as they say -- What comes around goes around.

  10. The only thing conservatives have to fear is the lack of fear itself.

What we have now in the media is GOP leaning media owners financing campaigns free of charge to those candidates.

The last two GOP state supreme court candidate, and many other conservatives, got lots of free media on the talk radio stations to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That is a money difference the opposition has to overcome right out of the gate before the other side raises a single buck.

While we don't want the fairness doctrine back, the way it is now is truly unfair. But hey, since when have conservatives ever tried to do the gentlemanly thing and play by the rules?

They do and that is why they are kicking the liberal's butt in talk radio.

Gee, capper, the word verification word is capper. A little ego, maybe? :)

  12. Sorry, Dan, but the verification word is computer generated by a random word generator operated by Blogger. But it is nice that I am finally getting some recognition. :)

But for the main comment, then I can take it you endorse the supposed liberal bias in TV and in the papers?

Personally, I can read past the liberal crap they print. If they want to be liberal, i really don't care, honestly.
I just want the market place to work it out. If liberals succeed in talk radio, more power to them and I might even listen to them. I listened to Ed Schultz and found him a little boring at times but for the most part, entertaining. Another would be Phil Hendrie who works at the late night shift.
