The saddest part is that it so accurately reflects Milwaukee squawkers and their listeners.

  6. Well, some people just don't understand my sense of humor. Of course those are people who don't have a sense of humor to begin with.

  7. My experience has been that the farther away from the border, the more virulent the opposition to, and hatred of, immigrants, legal or otherwise. Same thing with that stupid fence;nobody's more opposed to the fence than the people of the Rio Grande Valley.

  8. Here is how illegal immigration affects us. I have a student in my class who was hit by a car when they were 5 years old. The family is here illegally. The county had to pay he hospital bill for the kids, which was hundreds of thousands of dollars. The kid had severe brain damage and has to use a wheelchair. The family decided they could not care for the child anymore, so they had the county take custody and they had to be placed in the county run institution for abdanoned and abused children. Because the child was not eligible for SSI, they had to get them a new wheelchair- the county and school district had to pay for wheelchair. While the parents still care about the child, they no longer have the finacial burden to care the child, but the county and school district have to come up wit thousands, if not hundred of thousands of dollars just for this one child.. So when people say that illegal does not harm people, it does and it hurts the taxpayers.

  9. Dan,

What if that family was here legally, either on vacation or with a work visa? Would you still call them such a burden?

Shit happens all around, and one story doesn't condemn a whole group of people, unless you feed into stereotypes and racist rants. You never struck me as that type.

I also think you should have no problems thinking of ways the taxpayers really get nailed than the care of a little boy. Things like the Iraq War and the Bridge to Nowhere comes to my mind immediately.

  10. Capper, I thought you were in social services. If the kid was a legal immigrant, the kid would have had more options available to him. SSI for 1. Granted, it is still taxpayer money, but the cost would be spread out.
Your coment about being here on vacation is mindless. If they were on vaction, then they would be able to bring them back to their native country when the kid was stable. Again, if they were here legally, they would have accessto many more options.
The other stuff you mentioned is nonsense.
This happens, not to this extreme, all over the country. Illegal imigration, be it Hispanic, Asian, European, Africian (we have it all here in Vegas)does cost the local tazpayer money. Their home country's won't help, the feds don't help much and so tyhe local taxpayer is stuck.
Having said that, I do work with illegal immigrants from Mexico and I like them very much, however it would be nice to see them become legal immigrants. And I am not the one who says deport them all, I say, deport just the criminals who have been arrested for other crimes.

  11. Dan, you crack me up. And it surely isn't because of your sense of humor.
