What Is It With Them?

What is it with the right wing nutters and my poor deceased mother?

First, Fred Dooley insults her and to tries to tarnish her memory. (He still owes me an apology.)

Now our newest form of John, Mickey, launches on her poor soul. In a post at Badger Blogger, I posed a serious question on whether anyone knew exactly when Scott Walker dropped out of Marquette. Mickey starts in on some nonsense how I, or apparently any liberal, would rape their mother for power.

I responded by pointing out that my dear mother is deceased, and that I would appreciate it if he would leave her out of the discussion.

What do I get for my polite request? This piece of crap:

It equally sad to see that the owner and operators at said blog did nothing to condemn such vulgarity (nor did anyone answer my question.)

Finally, I would be greatly remiss if I did not express my gratitude to Grumps and Jay Bullock for calling out on this atrocity.

  2. Patrick has an issue with the word penis in the title of a hit theatre production, but cares less if someone on his blog (you know, a reflection of himself) intimates that a person's mother might be raped.

    Weird.

  3. Only the most vacant of minds would conceive such an argument. It is the purview of second graders who find themselves on the short end of the debate stick to resort to insulting one's mother.
Is there any tactic which more loudly screams out, "I have no reasonable argument to make, so I must resort to a mother and rape reply in hopes of irritating my intellectual superior into a mud fight?" I can think of none.

  4. My condolences on the loss of your mother, even if it was 8 1/2 years ago. I lost mine almost 10 years ago. Matter of fact, I only have one aunt left...all the rest....gone. sigh... It's tough when you lose a parent...that feeling of loss never goes away.

However, after reading the comments, etc, I think, perhaps, you read more into it than was there. And I'm doing my best to keep an open mind...not letting our political differences get in the way, or taking sides. :) I might be wrong, but I don't think Fred was insulting your mother, I think he was taking a shot at you. :/

    I could be wrong. :)

  5. That's nice of you to say, Kate. However, I can see no reason whatsoever for Fred having brought capper's mom into the discussion. That was plain wrong. There were and are other ways of taking shots.

  6. Regardless of whether Fred was attacking capper's mom or just capper himself, it was a lame tactic and did nothing but hurt any efforts on his part to get his point across.

Stick to the issues at hand, and leave the petty insults out of it.

  7. Well, I agree, you don't bring someones mother into a "discussion", unless someone else brings her up first. But even then.... I understand Fred's "Your mother should be so proud" comment. It's just something people say....in reality, having nothing to do with one's mother.

Now Mickey, on the other hand....I can't even begin to understand his thinking.

(Lucky for me, he hasn't "graced" my site. Heh!)

  8. I don't understand why BadgerBlogger puts up with the clowns that comment over there. The likes of Mickey and PCD have turned that place into the dark alley of the cheddarsphere. You will get mugged there unless you are a member of their gang.

  9. Well, 3rd way.....I'd say it has something to do with the 1st Amendment. People are allowed to make asses of themselves. And many do it on a regular basis. :)

  10. I fully support our right to make an ass out of our self. I have even exercised that right from time to time. I just wish there was a little more civility in the discourse. There would be if those that are capable of encouraging civility did so actively.

  11. Unfortunately, stupidity and incivility aren't against the law. We've got 'em on BOTH sides of the aisle, and honestly, I wish the personal digs would stop. If you disagree with a position, or some such, focus on that....not the person making his case. This is a detriment to us all. :/

  12. Eh, mickey's a half-literate simp. His comments on BadgerBlogger make me wonder if he lacks for attention in real life, because he seems to really be seeking attention with his comments.

  13. Kate-

I thank you, and 3rd way and other side for your kind words, but their is one point I feel compelled to make. Your point regarding the first amendment is somewhat in error. While people have a right to freedom of speech, that freedom is not all encompassing.

That is why there are laws regarding libe and slander. That is also why people can be arrested for disorderly conduct when their speech crosses the line.

However, my main beef was the lack of response from the host(s). I mean, if I came to your house, and one of your friends started saying that sort of horsepucky to me, I sure would hope that you would intervene and tell them to knock it off. If you didn't, it would make one believe that you either are OK with people disrespecting you and your home like that, or that you are as vulgar as the person.

Either way, it makes you a bad host. To me, blogging is not that different. You may not like what I have to say, but I would hope that we can at least disagree civilly (which we have done in the past). I try to keep from attacking people personally, but I will expose their poor behaviors, if needs be.

  14. capper, you shouldn't be at all surprised that Bruce and Patrick allow that stuff to go on over at BadgerBlogger, because I get the feeling all Bruce seems to care about is the number of comments they get over there while being less concerned about the quality of those comments.

Case in point...Bruce's reference on one of my blog entries to the fact that I hadn't gotten a comment on said entry in five days. I'd take my three regular readers over an army of mickeys seven days a week and twice on Sundays.

  15. This guy's reply seems on point:

"Mickey, I will assume that you have some unresolved issues with your pimp. Please take them around the corner or over to that garbage can in the alley, so adults with self-esteem can mingle and discuss without your drunk girl at the party outbursts."

  16. In defense of my fellow right wing whackos, we do allow people to behave badly on our sites, mainly because it becomes obvious that they ARE behaving badly. I know, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but allowing people to vent, no matter how irrational it is, allows other to see the irrationality. I see comments on blogs that just blow my socks off, mainly because 'we're suppose to be the good guys'. Heh. Seriously though, even I have allowed some comments that I didn't agree with, and honestly, found offensive. The point of putting our thoughts and opinions on the internet is to start a conversation. Sometimes that conversation can become.....down right rude. I've seen much more rudeness on the left though. Personal attacks, death wishes, etc. None of which promote dialog.

Still, there is no excuse for rudeness. :/

And yes, I'd ask the one guest to cease, or leave. :) But then, I'm nice that way.

  17. Kate, I do not defend the rabid lefties either. But I would wonder which side is really more abusive to the other, or if it would be a draw. I have already posted here on threats left in comments sections by a certain right-winger. I've also received many warnings from friends to watch out for this person or that person due to personal threats, not just to the blogger, but to the family of the blogger, in direct emails.

I think we all agree that that sort of nonsense is just that, nonsense.

  18. Well, it just might be a draw. I find the idea that those who would promote the conservative ideals could be so .....well, feckless! I would apologize for such behavior, but it's not my place to apologize for someone else's boorishness. I can only hope you don't believe all of us are lacking in good manners and decency.

  19. Oh, most assuredly, Kate. Over on Folkbum, just after the holidays, I wrote about meeting Bill, the author of View From The Cheap Seats. He is a very fine and upstanding man, and I am proud and honored to call him my friend. I have also had private chats with people like James Wigderson and Dad29, two gentleman that I fully respect, if not always agree with.

  20. Well, who knows....maybe if I ever make it back to Wisconsin (NOT in the winter) we can all sit down and try to solve all the problems of the world. :)

  21. Denigrating someone's family and I am especially sensitive when it's a mother is imature, boorish and a dozen other negative adjectives. But it really has nothing to do with a political party, conservative or liberal leaning. It really just says the guy or gal should crawl back under the rock and hide there til he or she dies.

Well, A, ya had me agreeing till that. :/

I will be first to admit sometimes I make not very nice comments, being the snark that I am. But I don't think I've ever wished harm, in any form, on anyone. Hmmm....I might be wrong (I'm old y'know), but I don't think so.

  23. I've given up on Patrick and his gang of merry men at Badger. The vitriol is too much for me to stomach. Life is waaaay too short to put yourself in a blender evrytime you try and say something coherent.
